We are at donner summit.

Made it to I 80 this morning.  Lunch at rest area.  Some folks dig ya, others think you are going to rob them.  So far all is good.  This week we will circle the tahoe basin and then start heading toward yosemite.  The hike with chad was great.  We are back on our own.  Thanks for all the bday wishes.  We tunnel under the freeway and cross around the actual basin where the donners got stuck.  We take roller pass into the bowl but it is the same place.  Hope for good weather.  Since we got around the fires we have been seeing fewer folks.  Aafter labor day things should be even better.

Almost a quarter of the way there.

We are in dunsmuir ca after our third resupply. 100 miles straight on the last segment.  Getting the hang of this.  Jen ran into the caretaker of an abandonded hotel this morning and again we are the only guests in a closed nineteenth century. Structure.  50 bucks cash got us the key.  Us, caretaker lisa, don the carpet guy and lisas three legged son are the only hotel residents.  Sounds like a scooby doo episode. We are on interstate five after all.  Pct northbounders are a partying group.  A lot of talk about fittness and endurance, but a drunken 20 year old nobo threw up on the shared hiker picnic table last night.   If you could still run away and join the circus, none of this would be so crowded.  Paul

Second section complete

We made it thru our second section and we're in beautiful etna,ca.   It's a great little town with a old-time soda fountain.  The town is full of PCT north-bounders mostly looking very underfed.  We continue tomorrow to castle crags SP.  This week had us walking through 3 miles of poison oak to our horror.  The views were fabulous afterward.  We also saw a lake crawling with salamanders and lilies as tall as us. We also learned that if your water source is snowmelt it will not be available in the morning.   Hope all is well with all of you.
