Still tryiing to get you caught up. In Burma all young boys are encouraged to do a month-long stint in the buddhist monkhood, and many young girls also become nuns briefly. While fulfilling this duty these young people are allowed to posess only seven prescribed items donated by the community and must beg for everything else they need - including food. They also live with adult members of the order. I can't help but think this experience would have quite an impact on a seven to ten year old and would seem to me to give these children a true appreciation of charity and of their lives back home.
